Quarantining and Spring Cleaning

Simple Spring Cleaning Reminders

Whether you prefer a rainy day, or a bright Sunday afternoon to accomplish your spring cleaning, there are a few areas of your home that are typically overlooked. Plumbing, mechanical, and electrical services may be our forte; however, here are some steps homeowners can take to maintain these areas too!

Plumbing
Preschedule Backflow Testing. Mandated by your city, or county, some homeowners will be receiving letters this spring to schedule backflow testing on their lawn irrigation systems. With strict deadlines in place, we advise calling ahead to preschedule your test.

Inspect Hose Bibs and Outdoor Faucets. Although below freezing days were to a minimum this winter, it is still important to check the operation of your hose bibs and outdoor faucets. Freezing can cause internal damage, sometimes leading to flooding. Catching a leak while inspecting the hose bib will allow homeowners to control the leak until a plumber can be sent out for repair.

Heating & Cooling
Preschedule Air Conditioning Maintenance. To many, maintenance might not be detrimental, but it is still important as it can increase the longevity of your mechanical equipment. Preschedule your maintenance for the start of summer to ensure your unit is prepared for the warmer temperatures ahead. Homeowners calling for mechanical repairs will soon flood the schedule.

Replace Air Filters. Roughly every six months, air filters should be replaced on your HVAC equipment. Thinner pads may need to be replaced more frequently. If you do not have any in stock at home, call our office for a doorstep delivery. If you missed changing the humidifier pad in the fall, this is also a great time to check its condition.

Electrical
Test Fire Alarms and CO Monitors. Spring cleaning is the perfect time to check the batteries in your fire alarms and CO monitors. Remember to be mindful of where you place your ladder or step stool, and have a family member stand close by as a precaution. Replacement batteries can be ordered online to avoid making a trip to the store.

Confirm Operation of Outdoor Lighting. Check all of the safety lighting on the outside of your home for proper operation, including your front porch light. This is also a good time to adjust outdoor lights on timers to make sure you are not wasting energy while it is still bright out. If you are interested in adding outdoor lighting, preschedule a visit from an estimator in May!

Not all home maintenance is time consuming. Adding these simple recommendations to your list can aid in the safety and health of your home. Although our team is currently providing only emergency services to our community, we are happy to answer questions over the phone or through email.
